PFCs are perfluorinated compounds that are used in the outdoor goods industry for the water repellency of textiles. Recent scientific studies, however, have shown that PFCs are harmful to people’s health and very slowly degrade in nature, so for the new collection we are introducing environmentally soundPFC FREE materials.
PFCs, or perfluorinated compounds, are foundalmost all around us. They are used in tents, carpets or waterproof membranes of outdoor clothing. PFCs repel water and are stable, includingthermally, but have another side to them. According to scientific studies, some PFC compounds have an adverse effect on animal health, including humans. They are released into the environment mainly in the production of goods, but also during washing or disposal of clothing. Scientists have found PFC traces in air, water, remote glaciers, plants, wildlife andeven in human blood. In small amounts, PFCs can enter the body even through the skin, so the European Union has come up with a regulation banning theproduction, use and sale ofgoods containing PFC from 2020.
Like many of the world's outdoor clothing brands, we have also risen to the challenge ofusing PFC-FREE materials. New materials are already evidentin our new autumn collection of 2018.
